NETTING AND LITTER

Hedgehogs sometimes get trapped in netting when it’s in their way. If a hedgehog gets stuck in netting and can’t escape then it can cause fatal injuries. Litter is also an issue as hedgehogs can get stuck in drinks cans and other packaging. It has previously been reported that hedgehogs have become wedged in empty crisp tubes resulting in death.

YOU CAN

  • Lift any netting e.g.. football netting 13cm off the ground in the evening, before hedgehogs come out, allowing hedgehogs to get underneath.
  • Replace any unnecessary netting with rigid structures where possible, but remember to leave a 13cm by 13cm hole in it.
  • Pick up your litter.
  • Check any netting regularly for hedgehogs.

do not

  • Leave any litter around that hedgehogs could get injured or caught in.
