PONDS

Ponds are great things, and a great source of water for hedgehogs. They are good swimmers but hedgehogs sometimes struggle to exit ponds with steep edges. If a hedgehog gets stuck in a pond they soon get tired and could end up drowning.

YOU CAN

  • Line your pond with stones to create a gentle slope. Stones are good for gripping onto, they also help hedgehogs climb out.
  • Put a log at the side of your pond to act as a ramp for hedgehogs to escape.
  • Check your pond regularly for hedgehogs just in case they couldn’t get out.

do not

  • Have steep slopes on your pond as hedgehogs could get trapped and drown.
